Rishabh Pant Injured: Narayan Jagadeesan Joins India Squad for Final Test
Rishabh Pant's Injury and Squad Update
Manchester [UK], July 28: Rishabh Pant has sustained a fracture to his right foot during the first innings in Manchester, leading to the official announcement that Narayan Jagadeesan will replace him in the squad, as reported by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Due to this injury, Pant has been ruled out of the match. He managed to score 54 runs off 75 deliveries, hitting three fours and two sixes.
Jagadeesan has been included in the lineup for the fifth Test against England at The Oval as Pant's substitute.
In his first-class career, Jagadeesan has accumulated 3,373 runs across 52 matches, featuring 10 centuries and 14 half-centuries, with an impressive average of 47.50.
Pant's injury is a significant setback for the Indian team, as the 27-year-old has been a crucial player with the bat.
With a total of 479 runs at an average of 68.42, Pant ranks as India's third-highest run-scorer in the current series, which includes two centuries and three half-centuries.
His absence leaves a considerable gap as India aims to secure a victory in the five-match ICC World Test Championship series at The Oval.
After leveling the series at Edgbaston following a loss in the first match at Trent Bridge, England achieved a narrow victory at Lord's, followed by a hard-fought draw at Old Trafford. This sets the stage for India to potentially tie the series in the final Test.
India's revised squad for the fifth Test includes: Shubman Gill (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Anshul Kamboj, Arshdeep Singh, and N Jagadeesan (WK).
