RCB's Rajat Patidar Discusses Bowler Challenges Ahead of IPL Qualifier
Bowler Pressure in IPL
On Monday, Rajat Patidar, the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, acknowledged the immense pressure bowlers face in the current IPL season, where scores exceeding 200 have become the norm. He refrained from commenting on the controversial decision to shift the final match from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad. Ahead of RCB's Qualifier 1 clash against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, Patidar noted that even totals in the range of 220 to 250 are proving inadequate this season. This trend raises concerns for bowlers, particularly fast bowlers, who must perform under challenging conditions. "Bowling has become more difficult. The pitches favor batting, boundaries are shorter, and dew adds to the challenge. A minor error can lead to six runs," Patidar remarked during a media session before the match. He added, "Regardless of the pitch or conditions, we strive to perform our best. It's not up to me to dictate how the pitches should be prepared."
Comments on IPL Final Venue
Patidar On IPL Final Venue
When questioned about the relocation of the IPL final from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad, Patidar chose his words carefully, steering clear of the surrounding controversy. "It’s beyond my control. This is a historic venue, and wherever the final takes place, that’s where it will be. Our focus is on making it to the final," he stated. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has cited operational challenges and local political issues in Bengaluru, such as increased ticket sales and anticipated crowd management difficulties, as reasons for the venue change. After finishing the league stage tied on points, RCB and GT will compete for a direct entry into the championship match. Patidar described this encounter as a clash between two teams that have performed well throughout the season. "On the day of the match, the team that executes its strategy better and remains composed under pressure will emerge victorious," he explained.
RCB's Strategy and Team Dynamics
Despite the high-scoring nature of the IPL in 2017, Patidar emphasized that RCB will maintain their aggressive approach and highlighted the importance of their bowling strategy. "Our bowling is our strength. The way we perform during the powerplay will be crucial, and everyone understands that we are not here to defend; we aim to attack. We will seek early wickets, which has been our approach so far. Consistency in this strategy will be key to our success," he stated. Following a costly performance by senior bowler Bhuvneshwar in their last match, Patidar expressed his support for the veteran, underscoring his value beyond mere statistics. "He is an experienced bowler who understands his strengths. His guidance to younger bowlers and his presence in the team are vital," he concluded.
