The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), captained by Rajat Patidar, have encountered an injury setback just before their crucial qualifier against the Gujarat Titans. The team has confirmed that Jacob Bethell will be sidelined for the IPL 2026 playoffs due to a finger injury sustained during a match against the Punjab Kings on May 17. RCB announced on social media, "Official Announcement: Jacob Bethell sustained an injury to his left ring finger during our game against PBKS. He will return to England to be assessed ahead of the Test series. Get well soon, JB! We’ll miss having you around." In Bethell's absence, Venkatesh Iyer opened the innings, scoring 44 runs off just 19 balls, but RCB ultimately lost the match by 55 runs. Bethell's performance in IPL 2026 has been underwhelming, with only 96 runs in seven matches.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have officially secured the top position in IPL 2026, finishing with 9 victories out of 14 matches. They currently hold 18 points and a net run rate of +0.783. RCB will have two opportunities to qualify for the final. The winner of the qualifier against Gujarat Titans will advance directly to the final, while the losing team will face the winner of the eliminator in the second qualifier. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have already confirmed their spot in the eliminator, and the fourth team for the IPL 2026 playoffs will be determined on Sunday, May 24. The IPL 2026 final is set to take place on May 31.
