The team has confirmed that Jacob Bethell will be sidelined for the IPL 2026 playoffs due to a finger injury sustained during a match against the Punjab Kings on May 17. RCB announced on social media, "Official Announcement: Jacob Bethell sustained an injury to his left ring finger during our game against PBKS. He will return to England to be assessed ahead of the Test series. Get well soon, JB! We’ll miss having you around." In Bethell's absence, Venkatesh Iyer opened the innings, scoring 44 runs off just 19 balls, but RCB ultimately lost the match by 55 runs. Bethell's performance in IPL 2026 has been underwhelming, with only 96 runs in seven matches.
