Rajat Patidar's Historic Achievement with RCB

Former cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has praised Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar for his pivotal role in leading the team to its second title victory in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) final against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Patidar made history by becoming the first captain to secure a championship in both of his initial seasons at the helm.

Tendulkar commended Patidar's unique leadership approach, noting his ability to foster a culture of accountability among players. He remarked that Patidar struck an excellent balance between guiding the team and contributing on the field. "A successful team develops its identity throughout the season. RCB's identity was built on shared responsibility. Rajat Patidar led effectively while also empowering others to excel. This balance was crucial to their journey to another final," Tendulkar shared in a Reddit post.

Patidar had an impressive season, amassing 501 runs in 14 matches with a remarkable strike rate of 192.69. He earned the Player of the Match award in the first qualifier against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Dharamshala, scoring an explosive 93 runs off just 33 balls.

His outstanding performance has bolstered his chances for a spot in the Indian T20I team, although he has yet to make his debut in the shortest format. To date, Patidar has played only one Test and three ODIs for the national team. He joins the ranks of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma as one of the few captains to defend the IPL title and is among the elite group, including Gautam Gambhir, to have won the trophy multiple times.
