Rajat Patidar Leads RCB to Historic Victory Over CSK
RCB Triumphs Over CSK
Rajat Patidar made history by guiding the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a significant win against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 6. The RCB captain maintained his perfect record against the five-time champions, leading his team to a commanding 43-run victory in front of their home crowd. Patidar delivered an impressive performance, scoring 48 runs off just 19 balls, contributing to a record total of 250 runs—the highest ever posted against CSK. He formed crucial partnerships with Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 50 off 29 balls, and Tim David, who added 70 runs off 25 balls. In response, CSK struggled early on and, despite a late surge, ended their innings at 207 runs.
Rajat Patidar's Remarkable Captaincy
Since taking over as captain of RCB in 2025, Patidar has led the team to victory in every match, including a historic win at Chepauk against CSK, marking RCB's first victory there in 17 years. He is now one of only four captains in IPL history to win their first three matches against CSK. This achievement was last accomplished by George Bailey in 2014, while Shane Warne was the first in 2008. Anil Kumble is the only other Indian captain to achieve this feat.
Most Consecutive Wins Against CSK at Start of Captaincy
| Player | Team | Wins | Year |
| Shane Warne | Rajasthan Royals | 3 | 2008 |
| Anil Kumble | Royal Challengers Bengaluru | 3 | 2009-10 |
| George Bailey | Kings XI Punjab | 3 | 2014 |
| Rajat Patidar | Royal Challengers Bengaluru | 3 | 2026 |
| Sachin Tendulkar | Mumbai Indians | 2 | 2008-09 |
| Hardik Pandya | Gujarat Titans | 2 | 2022 |
| Mayank Agarwal | Punjab Kings | 2 | 2022 |
| Riyan Parag | Rajasthan Royals | 2 | 2025-26 |
This victory marked RCB's fourth consecutive win against CSK, their longest winning streak in this rivalry. The streak began under Faf du Plessis' leadership during a memorable home win in 2024. Patidar's leadership has resulted in two of the seven largest victories against CSK by runs. If RCB continues this trend, Patidar could further extend his record in their next encounter with CSK. Riyan Parag, who has also started his captaincy with two wins for Rajasthan Royals, could potentially match or surpass Patidar's record.
Overall, 34 captains have faced CSK in three or more matches in IPL history, with Patidar being the only one unbeaten among them. The record for the longest winning streak as captain is held by Rohit Sharma with five wins, while Patidar has achieved 12 wins in 15 matches, boasting an impressive 80% win rate, the highest in IPL history.
