In Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on September 26, PV Sindhu of India secured her spot in the women's singles quarterfinals at the Asian Games 2026. She achieved this by defeating Japan's Tomoka Miyazaki in straight sets at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium.

Sindhu showcased her skills with a decisive 21-9, 21-13 win over Miyazaki, completing the match in just 41 minutes. The Indian athlete dominated the first game, finishing it 21-9 in a mere 18 minutes, and maintained her focus in the second game to secure a convincing victory.

Throughout the match, Sindhu controlled the pace and did not allow Miyazaki to gain any momentum, ensuring her advancement to the quarterfinals with a straight-games win.

On the other hand, Ayush Shetty faced a tough exit from the men's singles competition after a challenging match against Chou Tien-Chen from Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals.

Shetty lost the first game 16-21 but made a strong comeback to win the second game 21-19, leveling the match. However, Chou managed to keep his composure in the final game, winning 21-17 and taking the match 2-1.

This defeat marked the end of Shetty's journey at the Asian Games, while Sindhu now prepares for her upcoming quarterfinal match.

Earlier, India celebrated a remarkable achievement in kabaddi at the Asian Games 2026, with both the men's and women's teams defeating Iran in thrilling finals held at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium. The women's team narrowly won 37-34 to defend their title, while the men's team staged a comeback in the second half to win 40-34, securing their ninth gold medal in this sport.
