Sindhu Supports Organ Donation Awareness Initiative

Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], August 2: Following her historic victory as the first Indian to clinch the Japan Open Super 750 title, badminton champion PV Sindhu took part in an organ donation awareness event organized by the Andhra Pradesh government’s Jeevandan initiative. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about organ donation, describing it as a life-saving gift that brings hope to numerous families.

Sindhu participated in the event on Indian Organ Donation Day, alongside State Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav and other notable figures, to promote this vital cause.

During her speech, the two-time Olympic medalist highlighted the significance of educating the public about organ donation and recognized the tough choices families face when deciding to give others a second chance at life.

“I’m delighted to be here today on Organ Donation Day. It’s crucial to raise awareness about organ donation, and I hope initiatives like this continue. I want to commend the doctors and medical staff for their efforts in saving lives. Organ donation is a remarkable gift, and I understand that it’s a challenging decision for families. Whether it’s a parent or a loved one, choosing to donate organs is never simple. However, it’s vital for people to realize that their altruistic choice can provide many others with a second chance at life. Thanks to their donations, numerous individuals can lead fulfilling and healthy lives,” Sindhu stated.

Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav expressed gratitude to Sindhu for her involvement, noting that her participation would motivate more individuals to support organ donation.

“The Andhra Pradesh Government, particularly the Jeevandan Trust, has organized this awareness program to advocate for the noble cause of organ donation. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our national pride, PV Sindhu, for partnering with us to raise public awareness about organ donation. We aim to educate families of brain-dead patients, encouraging them to donate organs and thus give the gift of life to many others,” the minister remarked.

Sindhu’s involvement in this awareness campaign follows her recent achievement on July 19, when she became the first Indian to win the Japan Open Super 750 title, defeating local favorite Akane Yamaguchi with scores of 21-17, 21-17 in the final.

This victory marked a significant comeback for the former world champion after a serious foot injury and ended a 595-day wait for a major title, which had last been secured at the Syed Modi International in late 2024.

Earlier this year, Sindhu also made history as the first Indian shuttler to reach 500 career singles wins, adding to her impressive accolades that include two Olympic medals, the 2019 World Championship title, five World Championship medals, a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and a historic Badminton Asia Team Championships title with India in 2024.

Through her latest off-court engagement, Sindhu continues to leverage her influence to advocate for social causes, urging people to acknowledge the life-changing impact of organ donation.
