Thrilling Encounter in Paris

Paris [France], April 29: In an exhilarating UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) triumphed over Bayern Munich with a score of 5-4, gaining a narrow advantage ahead of the return match in Munich.

Bayern Munich opened the scoring when Harry Kane successfully converted a penalty in the 17th minute. PSG quickly responded, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia equalizing in the 24th minute following a remarkable solo effort.

PSG took the lead in the 33rd minute, as Joao Neves headed in a corner from Ousmane Dembele. However, Bayern equalized just before halftime, with Michael Olise scoring powerfully in the 41st minute.

Just before the break, PSG regained the lead when Ousmane Dembele scored from the penalty spot after a VAR review confirmed a foul by Alphonso Davies.

Early in the second half, PSG extended their lead with Kvaratskhelia netting his second goal in the 56th minute, finishing a move initiated by Achraf Hakimi. Shortly after, Dembele added another goal during a counter-attack, bringing the score to 5-2.

Bayern Munich fought back late in the game, with Dayot Upamecano scoring in the 65th minute from a free kick taken by Joshua Kimmich. Luis Diaz further reduced the deficit in the 68th minute, with VAR confirming his goal after an initial offside decision.

Despite the late surge from Bayern, PSG managed to maintain their one-goal lead as they head into the second leg.

The next match will take place at the Allianz Arena on May 6, where the aggregate winner will face either Atletico Madrid or Arsenal in the final.

As reported by ESPN, this nine-goal thriller set a record for the highest-scoring semi-final in UEFA Champions League history. It also established a new record for the number of goals scored in the first half of a semi-final or final, with five goals before halftime.

This match became the second-highest scoring encounter in the knockout stages of the tournament, following Bayern Munich's 8-2 victory over FC Barcelona in the 2020 quarterfinals.

It marked only the second time in Champions League knockout history that both teams scored four or more goals, the first being the 4-4 draw between Chelsea and Liverpool in the 2008 quarterfinal second leg.

Additionally, both PSG and Bayern surpassed the 40-goal mark in a single Champions League season, a first in the tournament's history.

Remarkably, this was only the third occasion a team lost despite scoring four goals in a Champions League match.
