Promoting Fitness: Parvinder Awana Advocates Healthy Living at 'Sundays on Cycle' Event

Former Indian cricketer Parvinder Awana participated in the 'Sundays on Cycle' event, promoting fitness as a daily habit and encouraging youth to steer clear of substance abuse. He highlighted the ongoing Fit India campaign's role in fostering a healthier lifestyle among young people. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also joined the event in Japan, supporting Indian athletes for the upcoming Asian Games. The initiative, organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, aims to engage communities nationwide in fitness activities.
 

Awana Champions Fitness at Cycling Event

New Delhi, September 20: Former Indian cricketer Parvinder Awana took part in the 'Sundays on Cycle' initiative, part of the Fit India Movement, where he emphasized the significance of incorporating fitness into daily routines and urged young people to avoid substance abuse.


During the event, Awana shared with reporters that the campaign has been ongoing for a considerable time and has provided a rewarding experience, noting that such initiatives are vital for promoting fitness among the public.


He stated, “This campaign has been active for quite a while, and it has been a wonderful experience... Fitness is indeed being encouraged through this initiative. As an athlete, I want to stress the importance of making fitness a daily practice,” Awana remarked.


The former fast bowler further explained that the Fit India campaign is designed to raise awareness among youth and inspire them towards healthier lifestyles.


“The 'Fit India' initiative aims to educate the youth and steer them away from substance abuse; the more we engage in training, the healthier we become, and the healthier we are, the better our mental decision-making skills,” he added.


Earlier, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya participated in a special 'Sundays on Cycle' event in Japan, organized by the Indian diaspora to support the Indian athletes competing in the Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya.


In an interview, Mandaviya commended the Indian community in Japan for hosting the cycling event to uplift and motivate Indian competitors at the Asian Games, expressing his belief that the athletes will excel and bring honor to the nation.


“The Asian Games are being held in Nagoya, Japan, with Indian athletes participating. To boost their spirits, the Indian diaspora organized a cycling event on Sunday to rally support for India. I am confident that our athletes will perform admirably and bring pride to the country,” Mandaviya stated.


The Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in partnership with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Raahgiri Foundation, and MY Bharat.


This cycling initiative is conducted simultaneously across all States and Union Territories, including SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and Khelo India Centres (KICs). Additionally, over 6000 NAMO Fit India clubs facilitate the cycling initiative nationwide every week.
