Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly Set New Records in IPL Match
Record-Breaking Partnership for Punjab Kings
In a stunning display of batting, Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly forged a remarkable 182-run partnership for the third wicket in just 80 balls, leading Punjab Kings (PBKS) to a commanding 54-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on April 19. The duo's performance was pivotal as PBKS amassed an impressive total of 254 runs. Arya was particularly explosive, scoring 93 runs off just 37 deliveries, which included four fours and nine sixes. Connolly, on the other hand, contributed significantly with 87 runs from 46 balls, having initially struggled with just 19 runs in his first 21 balls before accelerating after the powerplay.
Historic Achievements by Arya and Connolly
Their partnership was achieved at an astonishing run rate of 13.65, marking one of the fastest in IPL history. Only one other partnership has surpassed this scoring rate, which was the iconic 229-run stand between Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Gujarat Lions in 2016, at a rate of 14.31. Arya and Connolly's achievement also set a new record for the fastest 150+ run partnership in PBKS history, breaking the previous record held by Shaun Marsh and Adam Gilchrist from 15 years ago. This partnership stands as the third-highest for the franchise overall.
