Prathamesh Jawkar's Suspension Details

Indian compound archer Prathamesh Jawkar has accepted a two-year suspension due to three failures to report his whereabouts.

The suspension will take effect from April 19, and he will be eligible to compete again only after April 18, 2028. "After consulting with several lawyers, I was advised that admitting my mistake was the most straightforward path forward. I signed the consent yesterday," stated Jawkar, who was part of the team that secured the compound gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games alongside Ojas Pravin Deotale and Abhishek Verma.

The International Testing Agency (ITA) issued a charge notice to him for not filing his whereabouts on three occasions within the past year. This notice falls under Article 2.4 of the anti-doping regulations, which mandates athletes to provide their whereabouts for out-of-competition testing.

Jawkar failed to report his whereabouts in January, July, and October of the previous year. He explained, "I was late in both January and October because I had disabled all notifications on my phone. Regarding the July incident, I mentioned that I was uncertain about my location due to travel delays to Italy caused by visa issues. Unfortunately, they did not accept my explanation."

Athletes in the registered testing pool (RTP) are required to regularly update their whereabouts in the Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS), providing specific dates and times for the upcoming three months. Any changes in their whereabouts must also be updated in ADAMS.

Future Outlook

Despite this setback, the accomplished archer, who had an impressive 2023 season with two gold medals—one individually at the 2023 Shanghai World Cup and another as part of a team in Paris, along with a team bronze at the 2023 Medellin World Cup—expressed that this suspension will ultimately strengthen him. "What has happened is in the past. I will continue to practice and remain hopeful," he affirmed.
