Pranavi Urs Leads Indian Contingent at La Sella Open
In Alicante, Spain, on September 19, Pranavi Urs stood out as the leading Indian golfer, securing a spot in the Top 10 during the rain-affected first round of the La Sella Open, marking the Ladies European Tour's return after the Solheim Cup.
Pranavi finished her opening round with an impressive score of 3-under 69, placing her in a tie for ninth. She had been at 2-under with two holes left when play was halted on Thursday, but she returned to the course on Friday morning, finishing strong with a birdie on one of her last two holes.
Italy's Anna Zanusso took the lead with a remarkable 6-under 66, despite facing two significant weather delays during her round. She made a comeback on Friday morning, securing two birdies in her last four holes to take the top position.
Five players, including Ariane Klotz, Caitlyn Macnab, Gemma Clews, Helen Briem, and Hannah Screen, were tied for second place at 4-under 68.
Supported by Hero, Pranavi began her round on the back nine, starting with a birdie but then dropping a shot on the 11th hole. She bounced back with birdies on the 17th and 18th, turning at 2-under.
A bogey on the first hole briefly set her back to 1-under, but she quickly regained momentum with a birdie on the fourth and another on the ninth, finishing with four birdies and two bogeys.
Among other Indian participants, Diksha Dagar completed her round on Friday morning with an even-par 72, placing her tied for 62nd after a challenging opening day.
Diksha started strong with a birdie but faced setbacks with dropped shots on the sixth and seventh holes. After a bogey on the 10th, she rallied with birdies on the 11th and 13th, but dropped another shot on the 16th before finishing with a birdie on the last hole.
Avani Prashanth ended her round at 2-over 74, also tied for 62nd. Starting on the back nine, she faced difficulties, dropping three shots between the 13th and 16th holes before making her only birdie on the 18th. She managed to par the front nine.
Vani Kapoor recorded a 4-over 76, placing her tied for 78th after two birdies and six bogeys.
Hitaashee Bakshi, the only Indian to finish her opening round on Thursday, struggled with a 5-over 77, which included one birdie and six bogeys.
The La Sella Open marks the Ladies European Tour's return following the Solheim Cup and is being held at the La Sella Golf Resort in Denia.
