PM Modi Launches BCCI Indoor Cricket Academies in North-East India
Inauguration of Indoor Cricket Academies
On April 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a virtual inauguration for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Indoor Cricket Academies located throughout the North-East, starting from the newly established Indoor Cricket Academy at the Sikkim Cricket Ground in Rangpo.
This initiative is part of the BCCI's ongoing commitment to elevate cricket standards in the North-East, aiming to align these states with more established cricketing regions through enhanced support and development.
According to a post on X by the BCCI, PM Modi inaugurated six indoor cricket academies in the North-East, designed to provide better access to quality training and opportunities for aspiring cricketers in the area.
The inauguration event saw the presence of notable figures, including ICC Chairman and former BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, alongside senior BCCI officials such as President Mithun Manhas, Secretary Devajit Saikia, Vice President Rajeev Shukla, Joint Secretary Prabhtej Bhatia, Treasurer A. Raghuram Bhat, and IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal.
In their announcement on X, the BCCI stated, “Six academies. One vision. Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi @narendramodi inaugurates BCCI Indoor Cricket Academies across the North-East, expanding access to high-quality training and opportunity.”
The new cricket facility at the Sikkim Cricket Ground in Mining, Rangpo, has been constructed at a cost of Rs 23 crore by the BCCI. This state-of-the-art facility, located within the Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA) grounds, features modern amenities including net practice areas, a gym, a swimming pool, and other vital infrastructure aimed at enhancing cricket training standards in the region.
