On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his admiration for India's recent accomplishments in sports, particularly highlighting PV Sindhu's remarkable victory at the Japan Open. He described this achievement as a significant milestone and a source of national pride.

Sindhu showcased an impressive performance, securing her first Japan Open title by defeating the world No. 3, Akane Yamaguchi, with a score of 21-17, 21-17 in the women's singles final of the BWF Super 750 tournament held last week.

This victory not only marked Sindhu's first Super 750 title but also ended a two-year title drought, making her the first Indian badminton player to win the esteemed Japan Open.

During the 136th episode of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi remarked, "Our youth have achieved many remarkable feats in sports recently. PV Sindhu has made history as the first Indian to win the Japan Open title in badminton. The entire nation takes pride in her success."

Additionally, PM Modi praised the Indian women's cricket team for their historic Test victory at Lord's earlier this month, calling it a significant moment and a proud chapter in the country's sporting narrative.

India achieved a remarkable feat at Lord's, defeating England in a one-off Women's Test match with a dominant all-round performance, showcasing their prowess in red-ball cricket.

He added, "The Indian Women’s Cricket Team has also won its first Test Match at Lord’s Stadium in London. This is a historic victory."

After a wait of 142 years to host its inaugural Women's Test, the iconic venue celebrated a memorable milestone as India Women triumphed over England Women by 270 runs.
