Dubai, Nov 2: The Pakistan cricket team has been penalized five percent of their match fees due to a slow over-rate during the ODI Tri-Series final against Sri Lanka held in Lahore.

This fine was enforced by Jeff Crowe, a member of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, after it was determined that Pakistan fell short by one over of the required quota within the designated time, even after considering time allowances.

Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi admitted to the violation and accepted the penalty, which allowed them to avoid a formal hearing.

The on-field umpires, Ahsan Raza and Wayne Knights, along with third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Rashid Riaz, were responsible for the charge.

According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, teams incur a five percent deduction from players' match fees for each over they fall short of the minimum over-rate requirement, after accounting for any available time allowances.

This fine follows Pakistan's thrilling three-wicket win over Sri Lanka, which secured them the tri-series trophy in front of their home fans. Chasing a target of 326, Pakistan successfully reached 329 for seven with nine balls to spare, completing a remarkable run chase.

Fakhar Zaman played a pivotal role in this victory, scoring an impressive 127 runs off 99 balls, marking his 12th ODI century. He was well-supported by Saad Baig, who contributed 74 runs off 75 balls, helping stabilize the innings after early wickets fell, including those of Maaz Sadaqat and Babar Azam.

As Pakistan sought a late boost following Zaman's exit, Arafat Minhas made a significant impact, scoring 61 runs off just 31 balls, which included four sixes and as many fours. His explosive innings brought the target within reach before Shaheen clinched the win with a six.

Earlier in the match, Kamindu Mendis scored 131 runs, and Pavan Rathnayake added 77 runs, leading Sri Lanka to a total of 325 for eight. However, their efforts fell short as Pakistan completed the chase to claim the tri-series title.
