P V Sindhu and Mixed Doubles Team Shine at Japan Open

Sindhu and Mixed Doubles Pair Advance in Japan Open

Tokyo, Japan - On July 14, two-time Olympic medalist P V Sindhu, along with the mixed doubles duo of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto, successfully moved to the second round of the Japan Open, part of the BWF Super 750 tournament, after winning their opening matches in straight games.


Sindhu, the 2019 BWF Champion, showcased her skills by defeating Malaysia's Wong Ling Ching with a score of 21-14, 21-11 in just 36 minutes, marking a strong start to her tournament journey.


In the mixed doubles category, Kapila and Crasto also secured their spot in the next round, overcoming Scotland's Alexander Dunn and Julie Macpherson with a score of 21-16, 21-14.


Unfortunately, Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde were eliminated in the mixed doubles after facing a defeat against the top-seeded Chinese pair Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping, with scores of 11-21, 10-21.


In men's doubles, Hariharan Amsakarunan and M.R. Arjun managed to win the second game but ultimately lost to Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan from Chinese Taipei, with a final score of 13-21, 21-17, 7-21.


Additionally, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had to retire in their opening match against Denmark's Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard after the first game due to Rankireddy's ongoing shoulder injury.

Men's Doubles: Daniel Lundgaard/Mads Vestergaard (Denmark) defeated Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty 21-19 (retired).


Men's Doubles: Lee Jhe-Huei/Yang Po-Hsuan (Chinese Taipei) defeated Hariharan Amsakarunan/M.R. Arjun 21-13, 17-21, 21-7.
