Ousmane Dembele Shines as France Advances to FIFA World Cup 2026 Semis
Dembele's Confidence Grows After Key Victory
Boston, July 10: Ousmane Dembele expressed his joy after netting a goal that propelled France into the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2026. He noted that his confidence is building as the tournament progresses.
While acknowledging the team's strong performance, Dembele emphasized that there is still potential for improvement as they aim for ultimate success.
In a thrilling match at Boston Stadium, Dembele and Kylian Mbappe were the standout players, leading France to a victory over Morocco and securing their spot in the semi-finals.
Feeling positive about his performance, Dembele stated, "I feel great. This is a familiar position for me with France and Paris Saint-Germain. I'm gaining momentum in the tournament and am pleased with how I'm playing, although I believe I can improve further. The team’s success is what matters most, and we are determined to go all the way," as shared in a video on X.
Despite missing a penalty in the first half, Mbappe bounced back to score his eighth goal of the tournament and assisted Dembele for his fifth, setting up a semi-final clash against either Belgium or Spain.
France dominated possession for significant stretches and had a chance to score when Noussair Mazraoui fouled Mbappe in the box. The captain's penalty was saved by Yassine Bounou, keeping the score level at halftime.
The breakthrough came in the second half when Mbappe curled a beautiful shot into the far corner from the edge of the box. He then provided a precise pass to Dembele, who finished expertly to extend the lead.
Under Didier Deschamps, France successfully navigated the final moments of the match, marking their third consecutive World Cup semi-final appearance, following their victory in 2018 and a runner-up finish against Argentina in 2022.
