Odisha High Court Halts Hockey India Elections and Show-Cause Notice

The Odisha High Court has intervened to suspend the Hockey India elections scheduled for December 5 and a controversial show-cause notice against Hockey Odisha. This decision follows a writ petition challenging the legality of the notice, which aimed to downgrade Hockey Odisha's membership status. The court's ruling, delivered by Justice RK Pattnaik, raises questions about the governance of Hockey India, especially since the current Executive Committee's term expired on September 30. A final hearing is set for December 9, promising further developments in this ongoing legal matter.

Court Decision on Hockey India Elections

On Friday, the Odisha High Court intervened by putting a hold on the upcoming Hockey India elections, which were set for December 5. Additionally, the court suspended a show-cause notice directed at Hockey Odisha, which aimed to reduce the state's association from a permanent member to an associate member.

The interim ruling was issued by Justice RK Pattnaik during the proceedings of a writ petition brought forth by the Hockey Association of Odisha. This petition contested the decisions made during Hockey India’s 120th Executive Body meeting that took place on October 6, along with the subsequent show-cause notice issued on October 7.

A conclusive hearing is scheduled for December 9.

Hockey Odisha argued that the show-cause notice lacked legal validity since the current Executive Committee of Hockey India had already completed its term on September 30.
