Novak Djokovic Advances in Wimbledon with a Strong Start
Djokovic's Winning Streak Begins
On June 30, Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic celebrated a successful start to his Wimbledon campaign, showcasing his 'wolf energy' on the court after securing a victory in the first round. He triumphed over China's Wu Yibing with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, marking the beginning of his pursuit for a 25th Grand Slam title, his first since June 2023.
Djokovic is set to face Stefanos Tsitsipas next, a player he has historically dominated with a 12-2 lead in their head-to-head matchups, although they haven't competed against each other since the Paris Olympics in 2024.
In an Instagram post, Djokovic expressed his excitement, stating, 'Full moon in the sky. Wolf energy on the court. Woooooo to round 2.'
In another match, defending champion Jannik Sinner also began his title defense with a challenging win against Miomir Kecmanovic. After a surprising early exit at Roland Garros, Sinner managed to secure a victory with scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-3, taking over three and a half hours to complete the match.
Despite making 52 unforced errors, Sinner demonstrated resilience, especially during a thrilling tie-break in the third set that captivated the Centre Court audience. He faced a slip earlier in the match but continued without needing medical assistance.
After adjusting his strategy and reducing errors, Sinner regained control in the later sets and finished the match decisively. He will next compete against Portugal's Nuno Borges in the second round.
Additionally, Djokovic matched the Italian record of 94 Grand Slam victories, successfully avoiding the fate of becoming only the third defending men's champion to exit in the first round at Wimbledon.
