Nishu's Victory at National Selection Trials

In a thrilling display of skill, wrestler Nishu claimed victory in the 53kg category during the national selection trials held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium. This win positions her for a crucial final trial against Antim Panghal, who is set to compete in the Asian Games, for a spot at the Senior World Wrestling Championships 2026.

Nishu's journey to the top was marked by a hard-fought match against Thishka in the finals, as reported by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The upcoming trial between Nishu and Antim will determine who represents India in the 53kg category at the Senior World Championships, scheduled to take place in Astana, Kazakhstan from October 24 to November 1.

According to WFI's selection guidelines, the winners from Monday's trials have earned the opportunity to challenge the Asian Games-bound wrestlers in a decisive final trial, which will be organized at a later date.

Additionally, trials for four non-Olympic weight classes are also planned for the near future.

Two-time U20 World Champion Kajal continued her impressive streak by securing the top position in the 76kg category after defeating Siksha in the finals. Simran showcased her skills to win the 57kg title, narrowly beating Swati Shinde, while Neelam triumphed over Ankush in the 50kg final.

In other categories, Tapsya emerged victorious in the 62kg division against Anjali, and Srishti won the 68kg category after overcoming Bipasha.

WFI President Sanjay Singh praised the high level of competition, noting the increasing depth in Indian women's wrestling. He expressed his admiration for the wrestlers' determination and congratulated all the winners, looking forward to their performances on the international stage.
