Neymar's Comeback After Injury

Florida [US], June 25: Neymar Jr. made his long-awaited return to the Brazilian national team during their 3-0 victory against Scotland in the Group C match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on June 24 (local time). The 34-year-old forward came off the bench late in the game, marking his first appearance since recovering from a calf injury.

Significant Milestone for Neymar

This match not only marked Neymar's first game in the current World Cup but also his return to competitive play since suffering a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in October 2023 during a World Cup qualifier against Uruguay. This injury sidelined him for a significant duration, impacting his participation in Brazil's qualification efforts.

Neymar's Impact on the Match

Neymar entered the match in the 76th minute, replacing Matheus Cunha, and achieved a remarkable milestone by making his fourth appearance in the FIFA World Cup, having previously played in the 2014, 2018, and 2022 tournaments.

Brazil's Dominant Performance

Prior to this match, while the Brazilian squad traveled to Philadelphia for a 4-0 win against Haiti, Neymar stayed back at their training facility in New Jersey to focus on his rehabilitation. He resumed on-field activities over the weekend, participating in physical and ball drills to enhance his recovery.

In the match against Scotland, Brazil secured a 3-0 victory, finishing at the top of Group C and advancing to the knockout stage alongside Morocco. Vinicius was a standout performer, scoring two goals in the first half, with Matheus Cunha adding a third after halftime. Brazil controlled the match, while Scotland struggled to create significant scoring opportunities despite a few late attempts.

Vinicius Achieves Historic Feat

This match also marked a historic achievement for Vinicius, who became the first Brazilian in 24 years to score in each of the nation's first three World Cup matches, matching the records set by Ronaldo Nazario and Rivaldo in 2002. He is now one of only five Brazilians to reach this milestone.

Brazil concluded the group stage with seven points, while Scotland will have to wait to see if their three points will be sufficient to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.
