Neymar Confident in Brazil's World Cup 2026 Prospects After Victory Over Scotland
Neymar's Optimism Following Brazil's Win
Florida [US], June 25: Brazilian football sensation Neymar has expressed unwavering confidence in his team's chances for the World Cup 2026 after a decisive 3-0 win against Scotland in their Group C match on Wednesday (local time).
In a post-match interview, Neymar emphasized the unity and determination of the squad to achieve their tournament goals. He stated, “I’m excited, and so is the entire team. We are all committed to winning. If we continue to unite and strengthen our desire, we have a significant opportunity to reach our objective,” he remarked.
This match marked Neymar's return to the pitch for Brazil for the first time since 2023, as he came off the bench late in the game. He made his comeback after recovering from a calf injury that had sidelined him for the initial two matches of Group C.
Notably, this was also Neymar's first appearance since suffering a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in October 2023 during a World Cup qualifier against Uruguay, which had kept him out for an extended period and limited his participation in Brazil's qualification efforts.
Neymar entered the game in the 76th minute, replacing Matheus Cunha, marking his fourth appearance in the FIFA World Cup and achieving a significant milestone in his international career. He has now played in the 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026 World Cups.
In the match against Scotland, Brazil secured a 3-0 victory, finishing at the top of Group C and advancing to the knockout stage alongside Morocco. Vinicius was a standout performer, scoring two goals in the first half—one in the seventh minute and another just before halftime—while Matheus Cunha added a third goal after the break.
Brazil's dominance was evident throughout the match, with Scotland struggling to create significant scoring opportunities despite a few late attempts. This game also marked a historic achievement for Vinicius, who became the first Brazilian in 24 years to score in each of the nation's first three World Cup matches, matching the records set by Ronaldo Nazario and Rivaldo in 2002. He is now only the fifth Brazilian to reach this milestone.
With this victory, Brazil concluded the group stage with seven points, while Scotland will have to wait and see if their three-point total is sufficient to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.
