Injury Updates for New Zealand's ODI Series Against India

New Zealand Cricket announced on Monday that senior players Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra will miss the upcoming five-match ODI series against India due to ongoing injuries. The series is set to commence on Wednesday.

Chapman is currently in rehabilitation for a hamstring issue, while Ravindra has not yet fully recovered from a shoulder problem.

According to a recent MRI, Chapman’s left hamstring needs an additional two weeks of rehabilitation before he can return to play, and Ravindra’s right shoulder requires more time to heal before he can perform at full capacity, as stated by NZC.

Tim Seifert, who was initially named for the fourth and fifth ODIs, will now be part of the squad for the entire series. Additionally, Henry Nicholls will join the team for the first three matches, while Dean Foxcroft is set to participate in the last two games.

Matt Henry will join the squad today and will be evaluated for his fitness, while Matt Fisher, also selected for the later ODIs, will stay with the team as an extra bowling option.

New Zealand's head coach Rob Walter expressed disappointment over the absence of Chapman and Ravindra. He mentioned, "I spoke with Mark last week, and while he is upset, he is dedicated to returning to the field. Rachin's shoulder hasn't healed sufficiently for him to field comfortably in white-ball cricket, and with a Test series approaching later this month, we want to avoid any unnecessary risks."

Walter added, "We are happy to include Henry, who is familiar with the team, and Dean, who recently played in the ODIs against the West Indies."

New Zealand Squad for the First Three Matches: Mitchell Santner (C), Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Matt Fisher, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham (WK), Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert, Nathan Smith, Will Young, Blair Tickner.

Squad for the Last Two ODIs: Mitchell Santner (C), Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Kristian Clarke, Jacob Duffy, Matt Fisher, Dean Foxcroft, Lockie Ferguson, Mitch Hay (WK), Nick Kelly, Tim Seifert (WK), Blair Tickner, Will Young.
