Neeraj Chopra's Remarkable Comeback

Former Olympic and World Championship gold medalist Neeraj Chopra has hailed his silver medal achievement at the Commonwealth Games 2026 as a significant milestone, especially after enduring a challenging 10-month period filled with injuries and a tough recovery journey.

Chopra expressed gratitude towards his physiotherapist, coach, family, and supporters for their unwavering support during this time. He shared his excitement about competing at a high level once again and emphasized his commitment to progressing through the season gradually.

India made history in athletics at the Commonwealth Games 2026, with Chopra securing the silver medal and newcomer Yashvir Singh taking home the bronze in the men's javelin throw event, resulting in a remarkable 1-2 finish for the nation.

Chopra achieved a best throw of 85.83 meters, finishing second. Although his final attempt was a foul, he recognized it immediately but was relieved that his earlier throw was sufficient to earn him the silver medal in his second appearance at the Commonwealth Games.

In an Instagram post, Chopra reflected, "Some throws travel far, but certain moments encapsulate an entire journey. This achievement holds far more significance than just the distance. The last ten months have challenged me in unimaginable ways. Recovering from injuries, rebuilding my strength, regaining my rhythm, and learning patience while yearning to compete has been a journey. I trained daily, uncertain if I would even have a season this year."

He continued, "Competing at this level again feels incredible. I owe this success to those who never lost faith in me. My physiotherapist, Ishaan ji, has been with me throughout my recovery, helping me return to my passion. My coach, Jai, has been by my side since I first picked up a javelin. My family has always supported me, regardless of the circumstances. Thank you all for your encouragement and blessings. The season continues, one step at a time."

Looking ahead, Chopra is set to compete in the Lausanne Diamond League on August 21, as confirmed by the event organizers. This meet, known as 'Athletissima,' will mark Chopra's fourth appearance in Lausanne, where he aims to build on his Commonwealth Games silver and strive for a return to peak performance.
