In New Delhi, Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra expressed his delight after Indian javelin throwers Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh secured medals at the Asian Games. He has always hoped for more Indian athletes to excel on the international stage and congratulated both competitors along with Indian athletics.

On Monday, Yashvir Singh and Rohit Yadav stepped up in the absence of the reigning champion Neeraj Chopra, clinching silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the men's javelin throw at the Asian Games 2026.

Chopra shared his excitement on social media, stating, "I have always wanted more Indian throwers to compete at the highest level, and seeing Rohit and Yashvir win medals at the Asian Games is something I am very happy about. Congratulations to both of them, and to Indian athletics."

Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage, the top thrower of the season, met expectations by winning gold with a remarkable throw of 88.55m. Yashvir Singh achieved a personal best of 85.72m to take home the silver, while Rohit Yadav earned bronze with a throw of 84.35m.

Chopra was unable to participate in the Asian Games due to an injury sustained before his trip to Japan, which meant India was without its two-time defending champion, who had previously won gold at the Hangzhou 2022 Games.

The competition also featured Pakistan's Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, making the men's javelin throw one of the most anticipated events in the athletics lineup.
