Nandani Sharma Shines with Historic Hat-Trick in WPL
Nandani Sharma's Remarkable Performance
“Hold on, please, no tough questions just yet; this is my first media interaction,” Nandani Sharma said with a grin.
The talented pacer from Chandigarh made headlines by achieving a five-wicket haul, which included the inaugural hat-trick of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) season, during the match between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.
Sharma, who was acquired by Delhi Capitals for ₹20 lakh, debuted in the tournament against Mumbai Indians, where she took two wickets. However, it was her match against Gujarat Giants that marked a significant milestone in her career, as she secured a five-wicket haul, including a hat-trick, taking four wickets in the final over. She dismissed Kanika Ahuja, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, and Renuka Singh to achieve this remarkable feat, finishing her four-over spell with impressive figures of 5/33.
Having grown up with aspirations of representing her country, Sharma described this achievement as just the beginning of her journey. “I am receiving tremendous support. The team has really stood by me, and I dedicate my success against Gujarat Giants to them,” she expressed.
Reflecting on her philosophy, she stated, “My goal in life is to persist. There will be times when injuries arise, performance dips, or fatigue sets in. Yet, I strive to keep moving forward with a smile.”
Discussing her WPL debut, she remarked, “Bowling to such skilled players is quite challenging. I am gaining invaluable experience, and this platform has truly opened my eyes. It feels like a dream come true to have people watching and talking about me. I am immensely proud and hopeful to make the most of this opportunity.”
