Mumbai Indians Secure Dominant Victory Over Delhi Capitals in WPL 2026
Mumbai Indians Shine in WPL 2026 Match
Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 10: Following a commanding victory against the Delhi Capitals in the third match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, Mumbai Indians' captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who was named Player of the Match for her exceptional performance, commended her team for adopting a stronger mindset after their initial game.
In her remarks during the post-match presentation, Harmanpreet acknowledged the influence of the Indian women's cricket team on her batting performance.
After narrowly losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their first match of WPL 2026, Harmanpreet reflected that the outcome hinged on just one delivery that they failed to execute correctly.
“It was a fantastic game for us. We were quite disappointed yesterday, but today we approached it with a tougher mindset. I had a good start yesterday, and today I aimed to maintain that positive attitude. I’m enjoying my batting and must credit the India team. We have a strong lineup both here and there. In the last game, it was just one good ball that we couldn’t handle. It’s about self-belief and executing at the right moment. Every wicket brought me joy. There’s nothing better than that in T20s,” Harmanpreet Kaur stated, as reported by a sports media outlet.
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues noted that while their bowling was effective, they struggled to form partnerships.
“We’ll focus on improving that. It’s a new team, and we shouldn’t be too hard on ourselves. I’m confident we will bounce back. I enjoyed captaining today, especially being here in front of my parents at home. It’s a tough start, but a quick turnaround is beneficial as we won’t dwell on this. A strong team knows how to move past such games, and we aim to do just that,” she remarked.
In the match, Mumbai Indians, led by Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt, set a formidable target of 195/4 in their 20 overs against the Delhi Capitals.
After being invited to bat first by Jemimah Rodrigues, Mumbai faced an early challenge when Amelia Kerr was dismissed for a golden duck by Chinelle Henry in the first over.
However, Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet formed a vital 66-run partnership to stabilize the innings. Sciver-Brunt scored a brisk 70 runs off 46 balls, featuring 13 boundaries, before being dismissed by Shree Charani.
Harmanpreet Kaur led the charge, remaining not out on 74 runs from 42 balls, including eight fours and three sixes, as the Mumbai Indians concluded their innings with a robust total of 195/4.
For the Delhi Capitals, Nandani Sharma was the standout bowler, achieving figures of 2/26 in three overs, while Chinelle Henry and Shree Charani each took one wicket.
In response to the challenging target of 196 runs, the Mumbai Indians bowlers delivered a collective effort, dismissing the Delhi Capitals for 145 runs and securing a convincing victory.
During the chase, wicketkeeper-batter Lizelle Lee (10), Shafali Verma (8), Laura Wolvaardt (9), and captain Jemimah Rodrigues (1) struggled with the bat.
Chinelle Henry fought valiantly, scoring 56 runs off 33 balls, including five fours and three sixes. However, after her dismissal, no other Delhi batter managed to score more than 20 runs.
For the Mumbai Indians, Nicola Carey (3/37), Amelia Kerr (3/24), and Nat Sciver-Brunt (2/29) were the standout bowlers.
