MS Dhoni's Injury Concerns Loom Over Chennai Super Kings Ahead of Upcoming Matches

Chennai Super Kings are grappling with the absence of MS Dhoni due to injury as they prepare for crucial matches in IPL 2026. With the team struggling at the bottom of the league, the need for experienced players is critical. Dhoni's recovery timeline remains uncertain, and the team is also dealing with Dewald Brevis's injury. As CSK looks to turn their season around, fans are eager to see if Dhoni can make a timely return to the field.

Dhoni's Recovery and Team Challenges

The Chennai Super Kings are facing ongoing concerns regarding the fitness of their former captain, MS Dhoni, who remains sidelined due to an injury. It appears he will miss the upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals on April 11 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, with hopes pinned on his return for the following week's home game against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Dhoni has been absent for the first three matches of IPL 2026 due to a calf injury, and reports suggest that he may need at least another week to regain full fitness.

During the next week, Chennai is scheduled to play two matches at Chepauk: one against Delhi Capitals on April 11 and another against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14. The team, having lost all three of their initial games, is currently at the bottom of the league standings, making the need for experienced players in the lineup even more pressing. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that Dhoni will participate in the match against Delhi, with his chances of returning for the KKR game also appearing slim.

At 44 years old, Dhoni has opted to remain in Chennai for his recovery instead of traveling with the team for away matches in Guwahati and Bengaluru. His absence during CSK's only home game against the Punjab Kings has further fueled speculation about his condition. Reports indicate that Dhoni is currently under the care of the team's support staff, which includes a physiotherapist and a masseuse. He has recently been seen batting in the nets, which suggests some improvement and raises hopes for a swift return.

In addition to Dhoni's absence, the team is also dealing with the injury of Dewald Brevis, who is recovering from a side strain. There is optimism that he may be fit for the match against Delhi, which would provide a much-needed boost to the batting lineup. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan commented on Dhoni's rehabilitation, stating, “MS is undergoing rehab and it will take some time. We can’t say how much time. We are hoping he will be available for the next game, but that will depend on his progress. We have a few days before the next match.”

Currently, Chennai's IPL season is off to a disappointing start, marking its second-worst beginning. The team had a similar fate in 2022, losing their first four games, which was their lowest point. Additionally, CSK has struggled at home, winning only three of their last 15 matches at Chepauk since 2023, including a troubling five-match losing streak.
