Chennai Super Kings Eyeing MS Dhoni's Return

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are anticipating a significant boost with the potential return of MS Dhoni, who has been sidelined for the initial three matches of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to an injury. Under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, the team is in dire need of motivation after suffering three consecutive losses to start their season. The five-time champions have struggled, with each match appearing one-sided. In their latest outing, CSK faced an eight-wicket defeat against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati, where the Royals successfully chased down the target with 47 balls remaining. Following that, CSK's home game against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) ended poorly despite posting a formidable score of 210, as the Shreyas Iyer-led team chased it down with eight balls to spare. Their trip to Bengaluru resulted in a 43-run defeat against the defending champions in the Southern Derby.

Expected Return of MS Dhoni

According to a report from a leading news outlet, Dhoni may make his return in CSK's upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, April 11. However, his participation hinges on passing a crucial fitness test scheduled for the next few days. If the former captain successfully clears this assessment, he will be eligible to play against DC. For context, CSK announced on March 28 that Dhoni would be absent for the first two weeks of the tournament due to a calf strain. This season opener against the Royals marked the first match Dhoni missed for the Men in Yellow since 2019, making it only the sixth time in the franchise's history that they played without him. Additionally, CSK is set to welcome back key player Dewald Brevis, who missed the first three matches due to a side strain, for the clash against DC.
