Agartala (Tripura) [India], September 6: Young judoka Mrigakshi Saha from Agartala has made her mark by winning a gold medal at the national level, competing in the Under-14 girls' 36kg category during the 55th Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) National Sports Competition 2026-27 held in Agra.

Her impressive performance at this prestigious event showcased her potential as a rising star in judo for Tripura, as highlighted in a statement from the Tripura Chief Minister's Office.

Upon her return to Agartala early Sunday, she was greeted with enthusiasm at the railway station by her coach Pradip Sarkar, family, and supporters who celebrated her remarkable achievement.

Mrigakshi trains under Sarkar, a certified Khelo India judo coach and the head instructor at the NSRCC Khelo India Judo Centre in Agartala. This victory at the KVS National Sports Competition marks another milestone in her promising career.

The 55th KVS National Sports Meet brought together student-athletes from 25 regional boards, competing in various sports and age categories, including Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19.

Her success comes at a time when judo in Tripura is gaining momentum, especially following the historic achievements of fellow judoka Asmita Dey.

Dey made headlines at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games by becoming the first Indian judoka to win a gold medal, triumphing in the women's 48kg category against Canada's Heidi Quach in a thrilling final.

She secured her victory with a decisive throw during the Golden Score period, marking a significant milestone for Indian judo.

India brought home four judo medals from the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, with Dey and Harsh Singh both winning gold, while Yamini Mourya and Unnati Sharma earned silver and bronze, respectively.
