Boston, July 10 – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has praised Morocco for their inspiring performance in the FIFA World Cup 2026, acknowledging that while their journey has come to a close, the legacy they established will persist. The CAF expressed gratitude to the Atlas Lions for their efforts in representing the continent with pride.


Morocco's remarkable run in the tournament ended with a 2-0 defeat against France in the quarter-finals held at Boston Stadium.


In a post on X, CAF stated, "The journey ends. The standard you set will forever remain. Thank you, Morocco."

French President Emmanuel Macron also recognized Morocco as a strong competitor, commending the spirit of flair and fraternity exhibited during the match. He tweeted, "Pride for our Bleus. Bravo to Morocco, a formidable opponent tonight just like four years ago. France is in the semi-finals, with flair and fraternity!"


France gradually took control of the match, creating more opportunities before halftime. Kylian Mbappe nearly scored and missed a penalty, leaving the score at 0-0 at the break.


The first goal came in the 60th minute when Mbappe executed a stunning finish from inside the box, curling the ball past Yassine Bounou after a clever setup from Desire Doue.


Ousmane Dembele extended France's lead in the 66th minute with a powerful shot from outside the box, which Bounou managed to touch but could not prevent from entering the net.


Despite Morocco's relentless effort until the final whistle, France's experience allowed them to maintain their lead and secure a spot in the semi-finals.


This result concludes Morocco's impressive World Cup journey, while France advances closer to claiming the title.


France's next challenge will be against either Spain or Belgium in the semi-finals.
