Morne Morkel Highlights Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Growth Potential Ahead of T20I Series
Morkel Emphasizes Development Through Exposure
In Lucknow, India, bowling coach Morne Morkel expressed that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's ongoing involvement with the Indian team will significantly aid his growth, regardless of whether he plays in the upcoming T20I against the West Indies on Tuesday.
Morkel pointed out that the final decision regarding the playing XI will rest with the selectors, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and the captain, who will determine the best lineup for India's World Cup aspirations.
He further noted that training alongside seasoned international players and observing their preparation will be invaluable for Vaibhav's adaptation to elite cricket.
Morkel stated, "I’m confident that Gautam will consider rotation. Ultimately, it’s up to the selectors, coach, and captain to decide which XI will best secure a victory for India in the World Cup. That remains our primary focus."
He acknowledged Vaibhav's talent, emphasizing that spending time in a high-caliber environment with experienced players will enhance his skills. Even if he doesn't play, being around seasoned professionals will provide him with crucial insights into the game.
Morkel highlighted the necessity of fostering a conducive learning environment for young players, even when their on-field opportunities are limited. He encouraged them to observe their more experienced teammates during training, grasp their strategies, and engage in discussions.
According to Morkel, such experiences are essential for young cricketers to develop a robust mindset and grow in their careers. He remarked, "I firmly believe that placing players in the right environment allows them to ask pertinent questions and learn by observation. I challenge them to watch how experienced players handle their initial overs and devise their game plans. Regardless of their playing time, it’s our responsibility to ensure they learn and evolve. This approach creates a fantastic framework for growth."
Following their recent gold medal victory at the Asian Games in Japan, India is set to focus on a five-match T20I series against the West Indies on home turf.
