Monty Desai Appointed as Head Coach of Canada's Men's Cricket Team

His focus will be on building a competitive culture within the team as they prepare for upcoming international competitions, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Monty Desai Takes the Helm of Cricket Canada

Toronto, May 1: Cricket Canada has officially named Monty Desai as the head coach for the men's national cricket team.


With over two decades of international coaching experience, Desai has previously led Nepal to reclaim its ODI status and secure qualification for various ICC global tournaments. He is highly regarded for fostering belief, structure, and competitive discipline in developing cricket nations.


His coaching journey spans several international teams, contributing significantly to the successes of Nepal, Afghanistan, the UAE, and the West Indies. Desai played a pivotal role in Nepal's revival, aiding the team in regaining ODI status and qualifying for major ICC events.


Additionally, he has been instrumental in Afghanistan's growth during crucial qualifying stages and has collaborated with IPL franchises to identify talent and develop athletes. Desai is recognized for creating disciplined, high-performance environments for emerging cricket nations.

This appointment comes as Canada prepares for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 and other significant ICC pathway competitions, marking a strategic move to build momentum and enhance international consistency.
