Mizoram Triumphs in Penalty Shootout to Reach U20 Football Championship Final

In a gripping match at the Swami Vivekananda U20 Men's National Football Championship, Mizoram triumphed over Manipur in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw. The match showcased Mizoram's perfect penalty execution, while Meghalaya also shone with a decisive victory against Jharkhand. Bihar secured their first win of the tournament, defeating Andhra Pradesh. With these results, the competition heats up as teams vie for top positions in their respective groups.
 

Mizoram Advances to Final After Thrilling Penalty Shootout

Narainpur (Chhattisgarh) [India], May 11: In a dramatic encounter, Mizoram secured their place in the final of the Swami Vivekananda U20 Men's National Football Championship by overcoming Manipur in a tense penalty shootout at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama on Monday.


After a full 90 minutes of play and an additional half-hour of extra time without any goals, the match was decided by penalties, where Mizoram triumphed with a score of 3-1.


Mizoram's penalty takers were flawless, with Mesak C Lalrinngheta, Aldrin Lalpeksanga, and Freddy Lalruatkima all successfully converting their attempts.


On the other hand, Manipur's Soram Sumit Singh was the sole player to score from the spot, while Salam Swamichandra Meitei and Md Shuaib had their penalties saved, and Channam Akash Meitei missed his shot entirely.


In another match on Ground 1, Meghalaya showcased their strength with a commanding 5-0 win over Jharkhand, thanks to a hat-trick from Mebanlamlynti Masharing, who scored in the 19th minute and added two more in the second half. Menangpyndap Khongjee and Damitre Kynjing contributed with the other goals.


Meanwhile, on Ground 2, Bihar claimed their first victory of the tournament by defeating Andhra Pradesh 4-1. Vijyan Kumar opened the scoring just before halftime, followed by Nikhil Kumar doubling the lead after the break. Although B Bharath Kumar Reddy managed to score for Andhra Pradesh, Bihar sealed the win with two late goals from MD Nasim Khan.


With this result, Meghalaya tops Group A with six points from two matches, while Rajasthan and Bihar trail closely with three points each, having played one match more. Both Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand are still searching for their first points in the tournament.
