Mitchell Starc's IPL 2026 Absence: Impact on Delhi Capitals
Mitchell Starc's Injury Update
Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc is set to miss three upcoming matches in the IPL 2026, with a potential return only for the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 21. This absence poses a significant challenge for the Delhi Capitals as they aim for their inaugural IPL title. Currently, Starc is addressing elbow and shoulder injuries back in Australia. Reports suggest he may not rejoin the team until April 20, leading to his absence in crucial matches against the Gujarat Titans on April 8, the Chennai Super Kings on April 11, and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 18.
While there is no definitive timeline for his recovery, the management of Delhi Capitals remains hopeful for his return later in the season. Meanwhile, the team has started strong, securing victories against the Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants, thanks to impressive bowling displays. Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan have shown remarkable control in the death overs, while Mukesh Kumar has excelled with the new ball. The spin trio of Vipraj Nigam, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel has effectively contained the opposition during the middle overs.
Starc has been in regular contact with the Capitals' management, and his eventual return is expected to enhance an already formidable bowling lineup. In a recent social media update, he addressed his injury, clarifying the situation and responding to what he termed 'misinformed perceptions' about players. He stated, 'Despite the opinions and views of certain individuals with their platforms in and through the Indian media, I am currently rehabbing and managing an injury in my shoulder and elbow, the extent of which I did not know during the Australian summer.'
