Mitchell Starc's Comeback in IPL 2026

Mitchell Starc is set to make his return as he has been included in the Delhi Capitals' (DC) lineup for their upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 1 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The Australian fast bowler missed the initial eight matches of the season under the leadership of Axar Patel, and his matchup against Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is anticipated to be a highlight of the game. Alongside Starc, Pathun Nissanka and Ashutosh Sharma have also been added to the squad, while Dushmatha Chameera, David Miller, and Sahil Parakh will not participate.

Mitchell Starc's Absence Explained

Starc's absence from the start of the season was due to a shoulder injury, which he disclosed after facing backlash for not joining the team earlier. In a recent social media update, the 36-year-old expressed his frustration with critics, stating, "Despite the opinions and views of certain individuals with their platforms in and through the Indian media, I’m currently rehabbing and managing an injury in my shoulder and elbow of which I didn’t know the extent of during the Australian summer. These individuals have made some strong statements around involvement in the IPL and provided heavily misinformed opinions of players, preached them as facts, and claim to know my body better than me." He acknowledged the disruption his injury has caused for the Delhi team and apologized to fans for his unavailability at the season's start, reaffirming his commitment to the team.

Last week, Cricket Australia confirmed that Starc received his No Objection Certificate (NOC) effective May 1, following his recovery. This match marks Starc's first competitive appearance since the 2025 Big Bash League (BBL). Having retired from T20 internationals, he was not included in Australia's squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The Delhi Capitals are hoping for a swift impact from Starc, as they currently hold a record of three wins out of eight matches, placing them seventh in the standings.
