Mitchell Starc Eyes Milestone as He Approaches Kapil Dev's Test Wicket Record
Starc on the Brink of a Historic Achievement
Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc is just one wicket away from matching the legendary Kapil Dev in the all-time Test cricket wicket-takers list. He expressed that being mentioned alongside such esteemed players would be a significant honor.
Currently, Starc has taken 433 wickets across 105 Test matches, trailing Kapil by one. The upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh, starting on August 13, presents him with a chance to surpass both Kapil and South African legend Dale Steyn, who holds 439 wickets.
In an interview with the Australian Associated Press, Starc remarked, "It signifies that I've had a lengthy career." He added, "It's exciting and humbling to be compared to those greats, but such accolades don't hold much weight while you're still active in the game. It's important to stay focused on the present."
Starc currently leads the wicket-taking charts in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle, having claimed 46 wickets in eight matches. Among Australians, only Shane Warne (708), Glenn McGrath (563), and Nathan Lyon (567) have more wickets than him.
The tall left-arm bowler emphasized the importance of maintaining his physical fitness for the demands of international cricket. Although he participated briefly in this year's IPL, he has not played since.
Reflecting on his career, Starc stated, "At 36, after 16 years in the sport, I hope to have improved in various aspects." He continued, "Longevity in the game allows for growth and learning. I've incorporated techniques like the wobble seam and have a clear approach to my game."
