In New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu expressed her heartfelt congratulations to Olympic medalist Mirabai Chanu for securing India's inaugural gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in the women's 48 kg weightlifting category. The President commended Chanu's resilience, determination, and outstanding performance.

Chanu achieved her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal in the women's 48kg weightlifting event held in Glasgow, marking India's first gold of the CWG 2026. She successfully lifted 85kg in the snatch and 105kg in the clean and jerk, completing her hat-trick of golds after victories in 2018 and 2022.

Rishikanta earned the silver medal in the men’s 60kg category with a total lift of 264kg, which included a 121kg snatch and a 143kg clean and jerk. He set a new Commonwealth Games snatch record with his lift of 121kg, while Malaysia's Mohamad Aniq Kasdan took home the gold with a Games record total of 273kg, and Kenya's Joshua Mboya secured bronze with 260kg.
