Glasgow [Scotland], July 26: Olympic medalist Mirabai Chanu expressed her joy after securing her third gold medal in the women's 48kg weightlifting category at the Commonwealth Games 2026. She stated that she was "extremely happy" to contribute another gold to India's medal tally.

In a post-victory interview, Chanu shared her excitement about bringing home the third gold medal for India, acknowledging the pressure she felt to perform at her best.

"I am thrilled to have won the third gold medal for India. There were many thoughts in my mind, and I felt a bit of pressure. I aimed to deliver an outstanding performance for the Indian weightlifting team. I am incredibly pleased with my third gold medal and my fourth overall at the Commonwealth Games," Chanu remarked.

Previously, Chanu had won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and 2022. With her latest achievement, she completed a remarkable hat-trick of golds and marked India's first gold medal at Glasgow 2026.

Chanu had set a Commonwealth record with an 85 kg lift in the snatch and began the clean and jerk segment with an initial unsuccessful attempt at 82 kg.

She returned for her second attempt, successfully lifting 82 kg, and then delivered an impressive performance with an 85 kg lift on her third attempt, establishing a new Games and Commonwealth record.

Chanu then attempted to lift 105 kg, which she successfully raised above her head, securing the gold medal and completing her hat-trick of Commonwealth Games gold medals.

With this victory, Chanu added another gold to her previous Commonwealth Games successes in 2018 and 2022, while also marking India's first gold medal at the Glasgow 2026 Games.
