Mayank Yadav Aims for IPL Comeback with Lucknow Super Giants
Mayank Yadav's Journey Back to IPL
Mayank Yadav, the promising pace bowler from India, is setting his sights on returning to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) after being sidelined for over a year due to injuries. The 23-year-old managed to participate in only a few matches during IPL 2024 before an injury forced him out for the rest of the season. A subsequent serious back issue limited his appearances in IPL 2025 as well. In a recent interview on JioStar’s ‘IPL Today Live’, Mayank discussed his life after surgery, admitting that he previously neglected his physical health. He emphasized the importance of recovery, nutrition, and sleep post-surgery, stating, “The more I respect my body, the more my body respects me on the field.”

How Bumrah Is Driving Mayank Yadav's Road to Recovery
During his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Mayank had the opportunity to connect with Jasprit Bumrah, who was also recovering from a similar surgery. Mayank described Bumrah as a mentor, sharing insights from his own recovery journey. “Bumrah bhaiyya has been a great support. He shared his experiences about coming back from surgery and what to expect during recovery,” Mayank noted. Bumrah's guidance has been invaluable, as he understands the challenges of returning from injury firsthand.
Inspiration Behind Mayank's Fast Bowling
Mayank Yadav Names His Fast Bowling Heroes
Mayank revealed that his passion for fast bowling stemmed from his early struggles with spin bowling, with his father playing a pivotal role in nurturing this interest. He fondly recalled watching fast bowling videos, particularly during India's tours to South Africa, where he admired bowlers like Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn. “Fast bowling has always been a challenge, both physically and mentally. I was drawn to it from a young age, and my father encouraged me by showing me videos of great fast bowlers,” he explained. Mayank made headlines in IPL 2024 when he bowled the second-fastest delivery by an Indian in IPL history, clocking 156.7 kmph, just shy of Umran Malik's record. Following his impressive performances, LSG retained him for INR 11 crore ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. He is anticipated to make his return in the first match against the Delhi Capitals at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 1, 2026.
