Bulawayo [Zimbabwe], July 30: In a remarkable performance, New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry has surpassed both spinner Mitchell Santner and fellow pacer Kyle Mills to secure his position as the sixth-highest wicket-taker in the history of international cricket for New Zealand.
This achievement came during the first Test match against Zimbabwe, where Henry showcased his skills after Zimbabwe opted to bat first. He quickly made an impact by dismantling the top order, claiming the wickets of Brian Bennett, Ben Curran, and Nick Welch, along with the captain Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza, finishing with impressive figures of 6/39 in just 15.3 overs.
With this performance, Henry has now taken 328 wickets in 147 matches, maintaining an average of 25.81, and boasts a personal best of 7/23. His career includes 18 four-wicket hauls and eight five-wicket hauls. He has now surpassed Santner, who has 324 wickets in 263 matches, and Mills, who has 327 wickets in 231 matches. Tim Southee leads the pack with 776 wickets at an average of 29.57, including a best of 7/33, 20 five-wicket hauls, and one ten-wicket haul.
Additionally, Henry has moved into the 10th position on the all-time Test wicket-takers list, having taken 126 wickets at an average of 28.73, with his best figures being 7/21 across 31 Tests, including five five-wicket hauls. Sir Richard Hadlee remains the top Test wicket-taker for New Zealand, with 431 wickets in 86 matches at an average of 22.29, featuring best figures of 9/52, 36 five-wicket hauls, and nine ten-wicket hauls.
In the ongoing match, Zimbabwe's top scorers were skipper Ervine, who made 39 runs off 116 balls with six boundaries, and Tafadzwa Tsiga, who scored 30 runs off 78 balls with five fours.
