Marco Jansen Achieves 100 Test Wickets

In Cape Town, South Africa, on October 28, all-rounder Marco Jansen marked a significant milestone by taking his 100th wicket in Test cricket during the third Test against Australia. This achievement makes him the 18th South African bowler to reach this landmark.

Entering the match with 99 Test wickets, Jansen secured his milestone by dismissing Matt Renshaw in the 50th over of Australia's first innings. He followed this up by taking Cameron Green's wicket in his next over, bringing his tally to two for the match.

Playing in his 24th Test, Jansen is now tied for the fourth-fastest South African to achieve 100 Test wickets based on matches played. He shares this position with Peter Pollock, while Vernon Philander holds the record for the quickest, having reached the milestone in just 19 Tests. Dale Steyn accomplished it in 20 matches, and Hugh Tayfield, Allan Donald, and Kagiso Rabada did so in 22 Tests.

Jansen's achievement is also notable for the number of deliveries bowled to reach this milestone. With 3,864 balls, he is the third-fastest bowler in the post-war era to claim 100 Test wickets, trailing only Dale Steyn, who did it in 3,631 deliveries, and Philander, who reached the mark in 3,792 balls.

The 26-year-old's performance in the ongoing series against Australia has been impressive, contributing significantly with both bat and ball. In the first two Tests, he took 10 wickets and provided crucial runs from the lower order.

His best performance came in the second Test, where he took five wickets for just 33 runs, helping to bowl Australia out for 99 in their first innings. Earlier, he also scored 85 runs batting at No. 8, showcasing his all-round capabilities.

Jansen's outstanding performances have been recognized in the latest ICC Test rankings, where he has ascended to the top of the bowlers' list with 876 rating points. He has also claimed the No. 1 spot among Test all-rounders, ending another player's long reign at the top.

In the current third Test, South Africa posted 329 runs in their first innings, while Australia was at 191/4 at tea on Day 2, trailing by 138 runs, with Jansen having taken two wickets.
