Marc-Andre ter Stegen Joins Ajax on Loan Until 2027
FC Barcelona and Ajax Finalize Loan Agreement
Barcelona [Spain], August 4: FC Barcelona has confirmed that they have struck a deal with AFC Ajax for the loan of goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, which will last until June 2027.
This marks the second loan period for the German keeper under coach Michel, who previously managed him during his brief stint at Girona, where ter Stegen made only two appearances in the 2025-26 season.
Michel and ter Stegen will reunite at Ajax, a club renowned for its impressive record of 36 Eredivisie titles and four UEFA Champions League victories. The agreement is set to remain effective until June 30, 2027.
FC Barcelona stated, “The German goalkeeper is now set for his second loan spell under the management of Michel. Although he was limited to just two appearances during his time at Girona because of injury, the pair will now be reunited at a club that has won four European Cups and 36 league titles, among many other honours.”
Having won the Champions League with Barcelona in 2015 and accumulated 21 trophies during his time with the club, ter Stegen has made 423 appearances, ranking him as the 11th player with the most official matches for FC Barcelona and the second-highest foreign appearance-maker, following Leo Messi.
Ajax announced the signing, stating, “Ajax has reached an agreement with FC Barcelona and Marc ter Stegen. The 34-year-old goalkeeper joins the club on a season-long loan from the Spanish side.”
Jordi Cruyff, Ajax's technical director, expressed enthusiasm about the signing, saying, “Marc has an outstanding track record, and his qualities are widely recognised. He is an immediate addition to our squad. Marc and I know each other well, and I’m looking forward to working with him again. We have been working on bringing him here for quite some time, so we are very pleased that he has signed his contract and can now get started.”
