Manu Bhaker Advances to Final in Women's 10m Air Pistol

On September 23, during Day 4 of the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, India's Manu Bhaker secured her spot in the women's 10m air pistol final by finishing third in the qualification round. Despite her strong performance, the Indian team narrowly missed out on a medal, ending in fourth place.


The 24-year-old athlete achieved a score of 579-20x over six series, with her final three series showing remarkable improvement, scoring 96, 96, and 98 after an initial 95. The final is set to take place at 9 AM IST, as reported by ESPN.


Unfortunately, the Indian women's 10m air pistol team fell short of the podium by just two inner-10 shots, finishing fourth overall.


Esha Singh concluded her qualification with 572 points, placing 16th, despite a commendable finish that included scores of 97, 97, and 96. Suruchi Singh ended in 26th place with 568 points after scoring 93 in her last series.


Suruchi's performance impacted India's chances for a team medal, while Esha is now focused on the upcoming 25m sports pistol event.


Indian Athletes Compete Across Various Disciplines

On the same day, Indian athletes showcased their skills in multiple sports. In rowing, Balraj Panwar secured third place in his men's single sculls heat, qualifying for the final with an overall fourth position. Meanwhile, Satnam Singh and Salman Khan finished second in their men's doubles sculls heat, also advancing to the final.


In canoe sprint, the team of Harshwardhan Shaktawat, Varinder Singh, L Naocha Singh Oinam, and Arun Singh finished third in the men's kayak four 500m heat, earning a spot in the final. Megha Pradeep placed fifth in the women's canoe single 200m heats, moving on to the semifinals.


In swimming, Benedicton Beniston finished fourth in his men's 100m butterfly heat, ranking 13th overall, while Sajan Prakash did not compete. Both swimmers missed the final. Vedaant Madhavan and Aneesh Sunil finished sixth and fourth, respectively, in their men's 200m freestyle heats, with their qualification still pending.


Jaswinder Singh and Nitin Kumar advanced to Final B after finishing fourth in the men's pair heats. Additionally, India's women's four rowing team, consisting of Gurbani Kaur, Aleena Anto, Tendenthoi Haobijam, and Poonam, also participated in the heats.


Looking ahead, India's men's badminton team, which has already secured a medal, is set to face China in the semifinals, aiming for a place in the final. Wushu athlete Roshibina Devi will also strive to reach the final of her event on Wednesday.
