Manpreet Kaur Shines at Asian Games

In Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on September 25, Manpreet Kaur of India secured a bronze medal in the women's shot put event during the Asian Games 2026. Her impressive throw of 17.17 meters, achieved in her fourth attempt, earned her a spot on the podium. The gold medal was claimed by China's Song Jiayuan with a throw of 19.40 meters, while Zhang Linru, also from China, took home the silver with a distance of 18.14 meters, as reported by ESPN.

South Korea's Jeong Yu Sun finished just ahead of Kaur in fourth place with a throw of 16.78 meters, while Krishna Jayasankar Menon, another Indian athlete, recorded a best throw of 16.57 meters, finishing fifth.

This bronze medal was part of a successful Day 6 for India at the Asian Games, where the country secured multiple medals. Earlier, shooters Kamaljeet and Suruchi Inder Singh triumphed in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, winning gold. Additionally, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil, and Niraj Kumar earned silver in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions team event.

In table tennis, the duo of Manush Shah and Diya Chitale brought home a bronze in mixed doubles after reaching the semi-finals, where they faced defeat against China's Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha.

The Indian squash mixed doubles team, featuring Joshana Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar, also advanced to the semi-finals, ensuring a medal for the country. In singles, Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh progressed to their respective semi-finals.

Both the men's and women's kabaddi teams from India secured their spots in the finals after winning their semi-final matches against Thailand and Nepal, respectively.

In hockey, the Indian women's team triumphed over Japan with a score of 3-1 in their Pool B match.

In other events, swimmer Rishabh Das finished sixth in the men's 200m backstroke final, while weightlifter Seram Nirupama Devi placed seventh in the women's 61kg category. Unfortunately, boxer Preeti's journey in the Asian Games concluded in the round of 16 after a 0-5 loss to North Korea's Pang Chol Mi.

As of now, India's medal tally stands at 21, which includes two gold, eight silver, and eleven bronze medals, placing the nation 12th in the overall standings.
