Maaz Sadaqat Shatters Record in ODI Against Bangladesh
Historic Achievement by Maaz Sadaqat
In a remarkable performance during the second ODI between Pakistan and Bangladesh at the Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur on March 13, Maaz Sadaqat, a 20-year-old batter from Pakistan, set a new world record by surpassing Chris Gayle's previous milestone. His outstanding contribution was pivotal in securing a commanding 128-run victory for the Shaheen Afridi-led team, leveling the series in a match affected by rain.
Making only his second appearance in ODIs, Sadaqat provided a rapid start for his team, forming a 103-run partnership with Sahibzada Farhan. He scored an impressive 75 runs off just 46 balls, boasting a strike rate of 163.05, which included six fours and five sixes. Later in the match, Afridi entrusted him with the ball on a pitch conducive to spin, where he excelled with his left-arm spin, taking three wickets for 23 runs in five overs, dismissing Litton Das, Afif Hossain, and Rishad Hossain.
Maaz Sadaqat Makes History
Sadaqat has now become the youngest player ever to score a half-century and claim three wickets in an ODI against Bangladesh, achieving this feat at the age of 20. Prior to this, no player had accomplished such a double before reaching the age of 23. The record was previously held by West Indies cricket icon Chris Gayle.
