Glasgow, August 1: Lovlina Borgohain, an Olympic bronze medalist, has secured her spot in the women's boxing final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after a commanding performance in the semi-finals. She will face Australia's Emma-Sue Greentree for the title.

After her victory, Lovlina reflected on the upcoming challenge, expressing her confidence in her training and preparation.

"I have qualified for the final against Australia, and it will be a tough match. However, I am fully confident in my ability to win gold. My training has been excellent, and we are adhering to our coaches' guidance," she stated.

The 28-year-old boxer from Assam achieved a decisive 5-0 unanimous win over Tuvalu's Tarona Khanum Badi Pasoni Taafaki in the semi-finals, ensuring India at least a silver medal.

Having received a bye in the first round, Lovlina capitalized on her opportunity in the semi-finals, showcasing a composed and skillful performance that brought her one step closer to Commonwealth Games gold.

This latest accomplishment adds to her impressive career, which includes a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics and a gold medal at the 2023 World Championships held in New Delhi.

India had a remarkable day in the boxing arena, with several other boxers also advancing to the finals. Sakshi triumphed over Canada's Amber-Jane Wall with a unanimous 5-0 decision in the women's 51kg category, while Priya secured a 5-0 victory against England's L. Kings Wheatley in the women's 60kg semi-final.

In the men's events, Sachin continued India's strong performance by defeating Wales' O. Harris-Allan 5-0 to reach the final. Earlier, Arundhati delivered an outstanding performance by defeating 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist R. Eccles to secure her place in the final.

Additionally, Preeti (54kg), Ankush Phangal (80kg), Jaismine (57kg), and Jadumani Singh (55kg) also progressed to their respective finals, bringing the total number of Indian boxers competing for gold to nine across various weight categories.

With Lovlina leading the charge, India enters the boxing finals with high hopes for a significant medal haul and multiple gold finishes in Glasgow.
