Mbappe's Positive Outlook Before World Cup Kickoff

New Jersey [US], June 14: As France gears up for their FIFA World Cup opener against Senegal, captain Kylian Mbappe expressed that the team is in high spirits and he feels physically prepared to bring home the trophy.

The French squad will commence their World Cup journey against Senegal on June 17. As the captain and a prominent figure in football, Mbappe is at the forefront of the team's quest for a third World Cup title. He shared insights about the atmosphere in the dressing room, which includes players from the recent UEFA Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal. Notably, William Saliba from Arsenal is among them, who narrowly missed out on a historic double after PSG clinched their second consecutive title.

In his pre-match comments, Mbappe addressed the emotional dynamics among players from both teams, stating, "I quickly congratulated my PSG teammates. Consoling one player (Saliba) who lost the Champions League is easier than five. Arsenal's achievements are commendable. Having experienced a Champions League final loss myself, we have tried to support Saliba. The dressing room morale is high, and our focus is now on the World Cup."

Currently, Saliba is dealing with back pain following a demanding season with Arsenal and missed training on Friday, leaving his availability for the opener uncertain.

Mbappe has netted 12 goals across his two World Cup appearances, with four scored in the finals, placing him just four goals behind Germany's Miroslav Klose, the all-time record holder. While he appreciates being among the top scorers, his primary goal remains the World Cup title, especially after France's victory in 2018 and their runner-up finish in 2022.

"It's nice to be listed among the top scorers, but I question the fairness since they are older than me. I've been fortunate to participate in two World Cups and perform well. My main desire is to return to France with the World Cup," he remarked.

Mbappe reassured fans about his fitness, stating he is in peak condition and emphasized the team's focus on tactical and mental preparation for the tournament, acknowledging the slim margin for error.

"I am in excellent physical shape and thrilled to be with the national team. This is a crucial moment for us. We are absorbing a lot internally and have had a solid pre-tournament preparation. We recognize the challenging path ahead and are ready to compete for a spot in the final," he added.

Understanding the unpredictable nature of the World Cup, Mbappe reminded his teammates that a single poor performance can negate years of hard work, urging them to manage their emotions.

"Why should we stifle the players' enthusiasm? The World Cup isn't just a series of matches; one bad game can send you home. We must keep our emotions in check. I communicate this message daily. We haven't accomplished anything yet," he concluded.
