RCB's Dramatic Win Against Mumbai Indians

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], May 11: After a nail-biting two-wicket victory against the Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder Krunal Pandya expressed his admiration for pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, calling him "one of the finest bowlers India has ever produced."

The match unfolded on a challenging pitch, showcasing a thrilling contest between the defending champions and the five-time titleholders. Bhuvneshwar Kumar's impressive four-wicket haul played a crucial role in restricting MI's batting lineup, although RCB faced their own struggles, losing three quick wickets. Krunal anchored the innings, and in a dramatic finish, Bhuvneshwar contributed vital runs, leading RCB to a last-ball victory and securing the top position in the standings.

In the pre-match press conference, Krunal praised the seasoned Indian pacer, who recorded figures of 4/23 in four overs and made a significant contribution with the bat, showcasing his extensive experience and cricketing acumen.

"He is among the best bowlers India has produced. He has represented India across all formats for many years. His ability to bowl in both powerplay and death overs is commendable. With over 200 IPL matches under his belt and an economy rate around seven, his consistent performance speaks volumes about his caliber as a champion bowler," Krunal remarked.

Krunal also highlighted Bhuvneshwar's six as one of the match's standout moments, especially given the challenging conditions.

"Much of the credit goes to him. Matches like these foster team belief and camaraderie. We aim to build on this momentum," he added.

At 36, Bhuvneshwar is leading the Purple Cap race, defying age and injury setbacks, having taken 21 wickets in 11 matches at an impressive average of 15.28 and an economy rate of 7.46, with best figures of 4/33.

Krunal himself played a remarkable innings, scoring 73 runs off 46 balls, including four boundaries and five sixes. He adopted a cautious approach initially, stabilizing the innings and later counter-attacking, marking one of his best performances this season.

He acknowledged the pitch's tricky nature, stating that RCB's decision to bowl first allowed them to gauge the conditions effectively. Coming in at a precarious 3/39 during the 167-run chase, Krunal focused on building the innings.

"Throughout the match, batters faced challenges. The advantage of bowling first helped us assess the conditions and play proper cricketing shots. I felt the pressure after losing three quick wickets, but my plan was to build the innings and create a winning situation. Despite the ups and downs, we secured those crucial points," he explained.

Krunal's determination shone through as he battled cramps during his innings, refusing to give up. After each hit, he found himself on the ground in pain but remained committed to his team's success.

"I knew I had to chase the target. I aimed to maintain an aggressive mindset, hitting cricketing shots and capitalizing on opportunities. I refused to adopt a defensive approach and focused on my hitting zones," he shared.

"The cramps were excruciating, affecting both legs. However, I was resolute in my decision to fight through the pain and contribute as much as possible. Every match is crucial at this stage of the tournament," he added.

Krunal's "sheer willpower" was evident as he overcame physical challenges during the match.

"My approach to cricket has always been about resilience and embracing tough situations. I refused to give up, as that is not who I am," he stated.

He credited batting coach Dinesh Karthik for RCB's consistent batting performance over the past two years.

"Dinesh Karthik deserves significant recognition for the success of our batting unit. We have been consistently performing, despite facing ups and downs. He has dedicated time to each player, focusing on their strengths and weaknesses," he remarked.

In the match, RCB won the toss and chose to bowl first. This decision proved beneficial as MI struggled to 28/3 during the powerplay, thanks to Bhuvneshwar's exceptional bowling. However, Naman Dhir (47 off 32 balls) and Tilak Varma (57 off 42) steadied the innings with an 82-run partnership, leading MI to a total of 166/7 in 20 overs.

Bhuvneshwar was the standout bowler for RCB, with Josh Hazlewood (1/33) and Romario Shepherd (1/18 in three overs) also contributing effectively.

During the chase, RCB lost Virat Kohli (0) for the second consecutive golden duck and found themselves at 39/3, with Deepak Chahar (2/33) controlling the game. Nevertheless, Krunal formed a 55-run partnership with Jacob Bethell (26 off 27 balls) and another valuable 38-run partnership with Jitesh Sharma (18), reaching a brilliant fifty. However, Corbin Bosch (4/26) and Allah Ghazanfar (1/33) took crucial wickets, including Krunal, reducing RCB to 149/7 in 18 overs.

Romario Shepherd (4 runs off 11 balls) struggled against Jasprit Bumrah (0/20), leaving RCB needing 12 runs in the final over. A series of extras from Raj Angad Bawa and a six from Bhuvneshwar eased the pressure, allowing RCB to secure a last-ball victory, with Rasikh Salam Dar (3*) hitting the winning runs.

With seven wins and four losses, RCB currently leads the points table with 14 points, while MI sits at ninth place with three wins and eight losses, having been eliminated from the playoff race alongside Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
