KKR Faces Setback with Mustafizur Rahman and Harshit Rana Out for IPL 2026

The Kolkata Knight Riders are grappling with significant setbacks as both Mustafizur Rahman and Harshit Rana will miss the 2026 IPL season due to injuries. With Rana's absence following knee surgery, KKR is left to navigate their bowling strategy without two key players. The team has yet to confirm a replacement for Rana, although they have a strong roster of Indian pacers. As they prepare to kick off their campaign against the Mumbai Indians, the challenges ahead could impact their performance in the tournament.

KKR's Bowling Woes Intensify

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have encountered another significant challenge in their fast-bowling lineup, as Mustafizur Rahman will not be available for the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. On the same day they confirmed the signing of Blessing Muzarabani as his replacement for the upcoming season, it was revealed that another crucial Indian player, Harshit Rana, will also miss out.

According to a report, Rana has been sidelined due to an injury sustained during a warm-up match for the 2026 T20 World Cup against South Africa. This injury prevented the 24-year-old from participating in India's successful campaign. The report indicates that Rana underwent knee surgery and will not recover in time for the IPL. His absence will be felt significantly, as he played a pivotal role in KKR's triumph in the 2024 season, where he claimed 19 wickets in 11 matches. Last year, he took 15 wickets in 13 games.

No Replacement Confirmed Yet

The same report mentions that KKR has not yet finalized a replacement for Rana. Nevertheless, the team boasts a solid lineup of Indian pacers, including Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi, Akash Deep, and Umran Malik. In terms of overseas bowlers, they have Muzarabani and Mateesha Pathirana, who was acquired for Rs. 18 crore during the auction, making him their second-most expensive pick after Cameron Green, who was bought for Rs. 27 crore. However, Pathirana's fitness remains uncertain, as he suffered an injury during Sri Lanka's match against Australia in the T20 World Cup, which ruled him out of the tournament. KKR is set to begin their IPL campaign on March 29 against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium.
